Three wonderful celebrations
N.E.T. Catholic will celebrate this Sunday three wonderful celebrations.
First, we will celebrate Mother’s Day. When I was in middle school, I read “Que tan maravillosa es una madre que incluso Dios quiso tener una,” which in English translates, “How wonderful is a mother that even God wanted to have one.” May is a month that is consecrated to Our Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is not only the mother of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, but also our mother who always is praying for each one of us. So, on this Mother’s Day, let us consecrate our mothers to Our Heavenly Mother, so that they take Mary as their model of faith, they can serve and educate their children with Christian values. Let us pray for them so the Blessed Virgin Mary helps our mothers always. Also, let us pray for our mothers who are now resting in the peace of Christ. May God give them eternal rest and peace, and forgive their sins. Our mothers, who are not with us anymore, need our prayers. An appreciation of their love and dedication for us is to pray for them always. We are who we are because of our mothers. Finally, let us pray for those women who are like our mothers: our aunts, friends, stepmothers, mothers-in-laws, and so on. They are wonderful people who are caring also for us and helping us to be better each day.
Second, we are celebrating First Communions this Sunday. Six children from N.E.T. Catholic will receive Jesus for the first time. My family of N.E.T. Catholic, let us pray for them, so they can be loyal to the Lord and can always recognize the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Maddie, Alec, Fiona, Jane, Richard, and Lucas, Congratulations on your First Communion. I am so proud of you. You are growing into a graceful, and Godly young people. Just as you are blessed with God's love today, I know that our N.E.T. Catholic family is blessed by you every day.
Finally, we are celebrating the Good Shepherd’s Day. This day we not only recognize Our Lord Jesus Christ as our Shepherd, but also we pray for our priests, who are our shepherds, our pastors and lead us to the truth, the way, and life: Jesus Christ. We need holy priests who reflect with their lives the image of the Risen Lord through their pastoral work in the different ministries around the world. Let us pray also for our priests who are now elderly, sick, alone, or dying. So, God has mercy of them, and they can feel the presence of Christ through people who are caring of them. Besides, let us pray for vocations. As I said, we need Holy Priests. We need more men who want to take the challenge to follow the Lord through priesthood. Our Diocese of Rochester and all dioceses around the world need more priests.
Let us pray for our First communicants:
Lord Jesus Christ, bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time. May this day be the step toward a life-long love of the Eucharist. Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship. Thank you for their innocence and goodness. May their hands, extended in anticipation of your body and blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred Sacrament. Amen.
God bless you, and may the Blessed Virgin Mary be with you always!
Fr. Jorge Ramirez
We stand before You, Holy Spirit,
as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us,
make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go
and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful;
do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path
nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity
so that we may journey together to eternal life
and not stray from the way of truth
and what is right.
All this we ask of You,
who are at work in every place and time,
in the communion of the Father and the Son,
forever and ever.
Amen.
